The arm is built in
"The arm is built in two sections that pivot at respective joints. You can use one section independently of the second. For my set up, the use of the second arm places the monitor at a position that is too high for my appropriate viewing/use. However, the first section alone restricts the usable angles. I also purchased the classic Vari raisable desk and use the arm with the desk. I have two monitors, and the monitor stands are too wide for the Vari desktop and therefore, the viewing angle was restricted (image two monitors placed at a V-angle). I thought that by purchasing the single-monitor arm I would reduce the desktop's footprint, by eliminating a monitor stand, but now my viewing angles are still restricted, just at a different angle. I addressed one issue but created a new one. I should note that my desk sits up against a wall, so the pivot angle when using both arms is likely more restricted. If your desk has room behind the arm, you are less restricted, but the connecting joint between the two arms does not bend, so I still can't understand how the monitor placement would not be too high in either case."
